Remember that all changes need a certain amount of post-implementation support
Even when a change is transitioned into live, then it will still require a certain amount of post-transition support.
This means it is not a case of the change being transitioned into live and handed over to the business teams one day and then the Change Team being disbanded or walking away to join a new change the day after that.
Unfortunately, ensuring that changes are bedded in sufficiently, is a major part of ensuring change success. There are various examples where a change has not been bedded in properly and it has caused material problems with the running of the change.
For example, issues were encountered that the business teams did not have the knowledge to address (because the Change Team have left) or there were software issues raised that were not fully understood (because, again, the Change Team were not available).
Namely:
- Are all stakeholders aware that change takes time to bed in and this will mean the Change Team needs to be kept in place (often at a cost)
- Is there a clear set of handover criteria to pass the ownership of change from the Change Team to the required business teams
- Is the Change Team being appreciated for their work and efforts?
Therefore, it would be a shame to complete all the early parts of change perfectly but fail at this final stage
