The Internet of Things (“IoT” or sometimes the Internet of Everything) is taking the evolution of the Internet to the next logical stage by allowing any physical object (or “thing”) to be added to the Internet. This is in addition to traditional devices such as PCs, tablets, printers, and phones. These new objects (or “things”) could be anything from photocopiers, security sensors, wearables (such as watches), and television

IoT does have several business benefits such as remote monitoring, data gathering, more automation and efficiency.

But it does have many challenges such as needing a clear business case, new capabilities, security challenges, social acceptance, power supplier dependence, network dependence and challenges with remote support.

Therefore before looking to implement or use IoT careful pre-planning and thinking are required to avoid a disaster.
